Umiartorpoq!

The 5th graders have been working with wind in their natural science classes. In this lesson we wanted to have a little more fun.

Irene made sure we caught everything on camera, while Kevin and William tried not to sink their boats in our classroom watertank.

The boats were made from glass jar lids, foam, matchsticks and a paper sail.

We used balloons to make the wind...

...and then we had a yacht race!

It was fun and, amazingly, we did not spill one drop of water - but we did sink a few boats!

Nivi!

The 6th graders have made Malik, the 5th graders are making Nivi!

Before painting Nivi we drew her organs onto her body.

We also gave her a face and make-up.

There was plenty of time for making masks and gloves.

Over several lessons we painted...

...and

...found Nivi's heart and

...her lungs.

The pupils wrote all the words they knew on the whiteboard...

...and then we drew them on Nivi.

We also used the school model to find out where different organs are in the body.

Then we gave Nivi her skin!

Titartakkanik filmiliorpoq

We have been experimenting with animation in 5th grade.

The pupils take control of the camera...

...and help with the editing on the computer (in the background of the picture).

We experimented with different "things" to animate and where to animate them.

It was fun to be in the film and to watch it being made.

The pupils moved the models and things just a little bit at a time.

Gertie finally got the dinosaur to sit on Kevin's head!

There were lots of things to coordinate.

The teachers had to get involved too. Dorthe looks a little scared!

Now you can click on our animation to see what you think!

We have lots more experimenting to do. We will show our progress on the blog.

Sukuutserpoq!

Putting our skates on; it's time to hit the sea ice!

Zella braves the wind and minus 20 degrees to enjoy the skating rink the council has made on the ice.

It's time to have fun!

Herbert Island is in the distance...

...but we're not looking at the scenery...

...we're skating!

It's good to be on the ice.

There is a lot of space...

...room to move...

...and challenge each other to a race.

At the end of the lesson we walk back to school on the ice road.

Det er ikke altid vi ved hvad vi skal tage billeder af!

Støvle f.eks?

Lærer?

The Clothes Game with 5th grade

We are building our vocabulary of English words.

We wanted to have fun...

...and we found a pile of clothes.

On the count of three we had to run and choose one noun...

...and then find the clothes that fit the noun.

Sometimes we had to find more than one item of clothing.

The 9th graders thought it was fun too!

More and more pupils - and teachers - were racing to find clothes...

...and struggling to be the first to put them all on.

We also worked with colours...

...and descriptions like patterns.

Rasmus, 9th grade, even found a swimsuit!
