Akulliit Illugiaq 2012 - Day One

Day 1 of Akulliit's "Illuigaq 2012" project. We went down to the ice to find a spot for our illugiaq.

Tupaarnaq and Pipaluk started to cut large blocks of snow.

Nicoline carried them down to the ice.

Birgithe and Simigaq put them in place - we need to make them a bit thicker!

Miillaaraq brought some more blocks of snow.

Tupaarnaq dug out her working area - it was -25 C.

Birgithe keeps an eye on the project.

Simigaq enjoys the sun!

Illuigaq 2012

Vi har et nyt projekt! I denne uge begynder 6. og 7. klasse at bygge en iglo. Vi har plan om at sove i vores færdig byggede "illuigaq" i næste uge!

Når vi har billeder oploade vi dem her.

We have a new project! During this week the 6th and 7th graders are going to build an igloo. We plan to sleep in the finished "illuigaq" next week.

When we have photos we will upload them here.

Angajulliit har været i gang med deres illuigaq et par dage (billedet er fra i dag den 15. marts).

Angajulliit has been building their illugiaq for a few days now (this picture is from the 15th March.)

Sprogfilm 5

Her er den nyeste sprogfilm fra Birgithe, Miilaaraq og Simigaq. Underteksterne vil nok bliver sæt på senere - computeren driller lige nu! Bemærk, det er i lav oplysning.

Her is the latest language film from Birgithe, Miilaaraq and Simigaq. The subtitles will be added later as the computing is playing up at the moment! Be aware it is a low resolution.

Making language films

Birgithe (6th grade) and Millaaraq (7th grade) have been working really hard to make language films to help friends like Norbert, and the schools following us in England, learn Avanersuarmi (the Qaanaaq dialect).

This photo shows a little of the process involved with the girls choosing the words and getting just a little help from their teacher. Every film the students make is entirely the students own work. They choose the words, translate them into English using dictionarys, they decide the order of the words in the film, and then they film it. Simigaq (7th grade) has been a great camerawoman on the last two movies.(The teacher edits the movie at home due to the limits of the school computers.)

You can see the latest film from Birgithe and Millaaraq soon.

Parkour Qaanaaq 2

Here's some more Parkour from Qaanaaq!

Nunap assinga 3

Back in January we made a map of Qaanaaq on the classroom floor. We used anything we could find to build the buildings, roads and water tanks.

The 5th graders were brilliant at placing things in the correct place and with the correct orientation.

The physical 3D map was becoming very detailed. We had to limit the building of the map to the immediate area around the school as we were running our of bricks and pieces!

When finished we took pictures with the digital camera. Then we took the digital camera outside to see if we could navigate in Qaanaaq using a picture of the map we had built. We wanted to test how accurate it was.

While we were out we saw Nipinnguaq who was leaving that day. She ran out to join us for a class photo.
