In our Christmas Advent Calendar Rudolph is kidnapped and the

Christmas Elves have to find him to save Christmas.

Today you will meet the elves from 4th grade.

I dag vil I møde nisserne fra 4. klasse.

In the month of December we will post a small video each day.

Staring at the Moon!

The 6th graders have been staring at the moon in their science class!

It was only minus 10 degrees. Quite warm really.

It was difficult to focus on the moon at first ...

... but we found it!

It was exciting to see the moon up close and to try and find stars.

We will show more pictures when we have them!

On the 11th of the 11th 2011 Akulliit went into outer space!

Working to scale we are moving the solar system into Akulliit!

Nicoline hangs up Nunarsuaq (Earth)

The distances from the sun just keep getting greater!

Saalaat stands by the sun while Nicoline and Pipaluk balance on the step ladder.

Jupiter is just about ready to be hung from the ceiling.

Space is a big place and we spent most of the lesson close to the ceiling! 

But now we have the nine planets in the middle school!

6th and 7th grade worked on the project - you just can't see all of them in the photos!

Norbert's next adventure!

Norbert Pokorski spent some time with us last spring. He and his skiing partner Michal Bobruk sent a lot of chocolate, a beautiful book and DVDs for the pupils in Akulliit. You can read more here.

We want to wish Norbert all the best on his latest expedition!

Star Jars!

To kick-start our astronomy topic in 5th grade we made Star Jars!

Mixing water with a jam thickening agent we made "gloop"!

We cut up lots of bits of tin foil.

Martha poured gloop into the glass jars.

Irena added the food colouring - we had some left over from Halloween.

Then  she added some "stars" - the tin foil.

It looked like this before we shook it.

Bibiane was one of the first to make her Star Jar.

Gertie and Nipinnguaq helped each other.

We made quite a few.

And then we made some more! 

We found the activity on the net and just went for it. Now we have our own solar system in a jar!

Polar Activity Day at Truro Prep School

Steve Hobson and his pupils at Truro Prep School in England have had a Polar Activity Day together with ETE. The pupils at Truro Prep have asked us many interesting questions and Steve and I thought it would be fun to share their photos from England about us in Greenland!

We will add more text when Steve sends more pictures from the Polar Activity Day in Truro!

ETE staff teach pupils hands-on about "blubber hands", 

the difference a layer of blubber can make when keeping you warm.
